Trade Unions in Barbados were born out of politics therefore the rhetoric about DLP operative Derek Alleyne and cohorts moving a no confidence action against President Akanni Mc Dowell is to be expected, especially if standing NUPW officers have been identified as BLP aspirants and candidates.

Equally worrying for members of the NUPW is the impasse currently playing out which suggest a less than professional approach by those charged with the fiduciary duty to look after the members’ Medical Plan.

The following document details the events which have unraveled behind closed doors to give impetus to the dispute concerning NUPW’s Medical Plan through the eyes of President Akanni Mc Dowell.

    The President of NUPW is a figurehead position. He is silly because he does not understand this. His job is to chair meetings of the Union and sign cheques and other negotiable instruments in conjunction with the Treasurer. If he were sensible, he would use his position to influence change and not be a bulldozer. He made enemies that way very quickly, and most of the persons who were his supporters are now his enemies.

    The amazing thing is that he was behaving like a bully for a long time and people ignored him, rather than deal with his nonsense. This time he is being crucified for acting in the interest of the members of the Medicare Scheme.

    He rushed to the press to say that the move against him is political. That is a load of faecal matter. He stumbled into a den of thieves who were robbing the union blind, through the Medicare and he was too silly to recognise wide scale stealing.

    The people behind the move to oust him,even though they might be political, are not going against him for political reasons. They want to protect the income that they were getting under the table from Medicare for years.

    Mr. Fountain of all wisdom! Please check rule 11(a) of the NUPW rules of which the President is a part. Can you share times and instances where he a bulldozer and bully since he is directed by National Council. There you go making wild accusations with no facts to back them up. I undersandyour delima so continue smartly.
