Ms. Mottley does not have to be me, he added. But she has to make herself likeable, she has to be respected because people want to know that their leaders are full of integrity … and she has to consider the use of power;

not to be feared negatively but be understood as a person who can use power effectively”   Extracted from  Speech 2009 by Owen Arthur

Enter Jerome, exit Cynthia. The stage was set for the power house in the form of Jerome to take charge. He has come to the fore to demonstrate the office of General Secretary is the office responsible for the discharge of constitutional matters. Jerome’s entrance also points to the fact that the leader has no right sending persons under whose remit the matter cannot be dealt with.

It further demonstrates the deep cleavages that exist within the BLP and exposes the pretense by the leader that she is innocent of any wrong doings in this regard with Agard. This issue in Christ Church West is about power! Who is in charge? LEADERSHIP.

The last person who was scuttled was the female candidate in the person of Lynette Eastmond who Owen had time for. There is no doubt that a correlation exists between the Owen led team of the past and the attempts by the new leader to exorcise the party of all Owen loyalists.

As a matter of fact, the key player in all of this is none other than the Doc, Jerome. His ambitions for leadership are clear as he remains very popular among the rank and file. Mia is acutely aware of his popularity and must seek to find an accommodation for him. The new leader is so fearful of the Doc that she left him here in Barbados to attend to the Bequia-Birthday Retreat

The invitees to that Retreat reflected only those who were deeply involved with the new leader’s moulding. Her good friend, the one who looks after her Infra- structure flew in to be by her side as he toasted her occasion. He has shown unswerving support in this regard. While Mia attends to the Retreat, we have on good intelligence that any attempt to ignore Fuzzy Lovell in Christ Church East Central will unleash yet another political backlash. She can do all she wants to encourage an economist on board, the option form signed by Woody to exit is clear for all to see. Mascoll is busy trying to convince the public that he is brighter than all of them put together.

The choice of Ryan Straughn to run against the successful Member of Parliament, Ronald Jones, will allow for the Agard Affair to gain the needed push and support base that it is currently lacking. Agard knows her political fissure in the party came when she bluntly refused to stand aside for a bourgeoise member of the status quo. We are aware that there is no support for Mia in this regard from Kerrie as he knows quite well how it feels to be snubbed in public by the leader. Kerrie is on record as being the shortest serving Deputy to Mia who was quickly replaced and put in his place.

The split on this issue in Roebuck Street will not stop Mia from having her way. She has removed the final obstacle in her way in the person of Arthur who stepped aside and stepped off the boat to allow for a more comfortable ride. He was prophetic in his pronouncements, “Ms Mottley does not have to be me, he added. But she has to make herself likeable, she has to be respected because people want to know that their leaders are full of integrity … and she has to consider the use of power; not to be feared negatively but be understood as a person who can use power effectively.”

He was looking into a crystal ball and seeing the edifice he reconstructed in the image of inclusion now reduced to be a party of, “One way….Mia’s Way”. This attempt to create a new Barbados Labour Party in her image is at the heart of the new policy posture of the new leader. The public has already been put on notice that every SOCIAL POLICY structure introduced by the Democratic Labour Party must go. Barbados..Mia Just Not Ready

  1. Wunda wha Mia got to say bout dis.

    ““We have no intention of supporting Ms Marsha Hinds-Layne in any form or at any time to represent St Michael North West,” declared Natalie Branch-Sealy, the group’s spokesman. While the group is made up of members of the BLP, it’s not an official arm of the party.”
