Hon Dr Esther Byer, Minister of Labour
Hon Dr Esther Byer, Minister of Labour

At a time when our little country which has been slow to recover from the global recession of 2008 should be marshalling all of its resources to the benefit of all, Barbadians and the world have awakened to the news the country remains gripped in industrial action. As if the manmade problems were not enough sargassum seaweed continues to obliterate our coastline and in the process suffocate our tourism product.

The old people have a saying, “what you sow, you does reap”, the political tinkering, corruption and downright wickedness in high and low places has eroded all trust and integrity from our society. Our inability, although educated at great expense, to resolve our problems with minimum dislocation is an indictment of us all, we should remove the description ‘an educated people’ from our lexicon.

Barbadians knew last evening minister Esther Byer would not have been able to resolve the issue. However, custom and protocol required we have the meeting when commonsense dictated given the serious of the impasse between the unions led by the NUPW and government, a joint meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Labour should have been called.

We have become a nation of JAs!

BU leaves you with the following comment posted by BU commenter St. George’s Dragon:

The common theme in these labour disputes seems to be the employer seeking to lay off staff without declaring the real reason. We all know, not least because the BIDC told us, that they need to make savings, so staff have to go. Others more knowledgeable than me will be able to say what the legal position is but common sense says that in this situation, BIDC should be able to make people redundant and pay them what they are entitled to receive in accordance with the law. Why dress it up as early enforced retirement? If the post no longer exists because there is no money to pay for it, sadly, people have to be sent home.

I guess the truth hurts, doesn’t it?

The Nation newspaper is the political public relations arm of the BLP, its pages are dominated by columnists who are all proven BLP supporters and its management has a clear political agenda which informs how its columnist are chosen and retained. I simply bring example after example to expose this to the Barbadian Public while instead of bringing facts to prove me wrong , you resort to your robotic, infantile and predictably partisan response: “CBC does do it too”.

  2. NationBLPnewspaper,

Consider the exposure complete and move on to the next topic. Wait… you don’t have a “next topic”.

NationBLPnewspaper, you are a jackass, and have demonstrated that this characteristic is perhaps one of your strong points.

I can equally say that CBC “is the political public relations arm of the DLP.”

You want proof? Then check the local programming. CBC even televises speeches made at the DLP annual conferences, which DOES NOT HAVE absolutely anything to do about Barbados, but is specific to that political party. Is this not using a government funded agency to spout DLP propaganda?

Listen to Talk ya Talk” on CBC 100.7 FM. This program is “dominated by moderators, (Maureen Holder and John Lovell), and callers who are all proven DLP supporters.” Also, based on the format of this “talk show,” it’s evident management has a clear political agenda which informs how its moderators, guest and callers are chosen.”

Perhaps, what you should do is to bring facts to prove me wrong in this case.

Firstly, I never stated “CBC does it too.” Those are YOUR words, not mine. I simply gave you list of alternative media you could access.

Secondly, rather than let my comments “go outside the off stump,” you chose to respond. And quite frankly, your response is just a lot of incoherent party political diatribe, in other words, it is pure shiite.
But I forgive you, people in general, when in pain, often become incoherent and “does talk shiite.” “I guess the truth hurts, doesn’t it?”

Thirdly, I do not appreciate the partisan line CBC and its programming takes.

So rather than come on BU to constantly gripe with “robotic, infantile and predictably partisan responses” such as “CBC is the public relations arm of the DLP,” I SOLVED THAT PROBLEM BY SIMPLY WATCHING THE NEWS OR THE LOTTO NUMBERS WHEN UH BUY A TICKET. That, my friend is MATURITY.

On the other hand, only an IMBECILE would CHOOSE TO BUY the Nation and come to BU with “robotic and predictably partisan comments” to wit “The Nation newspaper is the political public relations arm of the BLP, its pages are dominated by columnists who are all proven BLP supporters.” Is this not infantile? Your actions are tantamount to that of a spoilt brat.

Additionally, BU offers articles with a wide range of topics for us to make our contributions. Your response to EVERY article is always the same shiite about the Nation.

Surely those on BU will agree (and even you, if you are honest with yourself) that by your actions, you have demonstrated that you are indeed the “robotic” one here.

Alright, let’s agree with you, the Nation is political. Do you not think it’s about time you move on and comment about the industrial relations climate in the island, CAHILL, the recent budget, or even “Pan in the Sand?”

Perhaps your program chip has “NATION” electronically etched in it.

I admire you for taking on another one of the ac consortium……………every other week, this “nation critic” is on the Nation’s case and the idiot would not stop buying the paper. Wuh, he could only be a jackass.

Art, do you remember that just before the 2013 election, George Pilgrim was on DLPTV saying that the DLP was setting up a radio station………….wuh, that is another avenue for the nation critic to go and hear only what he wants to hear!

By the way, did everyone see the PM at 7pm? WOW!

@Artaxerses “Alright, let’s agree with you, the Nation is political.”

There is light at the end of the tunnel after all. Maybe you could use your influence here on the blog and in the BLP to join me in fighting for a higher standard of journalism across all media
