Marcus Garvey was the first black in the western hemisphere to arouse the collective conscience of the black’s masses. As a matter of fact, he has had a profound influenced on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, along with Mahatma Gandhi of course.

  3. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 11:28 AM #

Marcus Mosiah was way ahead of his time and uttered words that will apply to the black race for many generations to come…………

The jamacian, Marcus Garvey in the United States rose to prominence as did Bajan princess Rihanna. During a trip to Jamaica, Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife Coretta Scott King visited the shrine of Marcus Garvey (06/20/1965) and laid wreath. In a speech he told the audience that Gary “was the first man of color to lead and develop a mass movement. He was the first man on a mass scale and level to give millions of blacks a sense of dignity and destiny, make the black man feel he was somebody. The Obama Administration declined to pardon Garvey in 2011 ONLY because its policy is not to consider requests for postthumous pardons.

Jamaica it seems can count more stars than Barbados. Barbados harps on Rihanna but has no one else; Jamaica has Marcus Garvey, Usain Bolt, Bob Marley, Grace Jones and Jimmy Cliff. Barbados thus far has Rihanna, only Rihanna – a major embarrassement. Must see “bad girl” Rihanna and Kate Moss get carried away for V Magazine (03/2013).

Garvey died in London in 1940 after two strokes, putatively after reading a mistaken, and negative, obituary of himself in the Chicago Defender which stated, in part, that Garvey died “broke, alone and unpopular” . Due to travel restrictions during World War II, his body was interred in London and he was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery. In 1964, his remains were exhumed and taken to Jamaica. Clap hands for Jamaica. Give them a standing ovation. Garvey rightfully belong to Jamaica not London in England.

But surely there can be no doubt that Seamus O’Heaney of Donegal, yea even though he be persecuted by his English masters, invented:

    1. Pencils.
    2. Shopping malls.
    3. All aircraft.
    4. Stones. Pebbles, too.
    5. The qwerty keyboard.
    6. Sand.
    7. Unpleasant hosiery that itches in the spring and summer months.
    8. The hovercraft.
    9. Walls. All walls, everywhere.
    10. Peanut butter.
    11. Those little steps you can buy so your tiny dog can climb onto your bed, if he wants. Or if she wants.
    12. The Irish trade union movement, the true vanguard of the voiceless Irish masses.
    13. Rainbows.
    14. Rain.
    15. Hairdressing, all of it.
    16. Unicyles.
    17. Unicorns.
    18. The Constitution River.
    19. The International Labour Organisation
    20. All dickheads, everywhere, throughout the known universe.

    And, er,

    21. Teacups.

Look……………… you can even put Rihanna in the same class as Marcus Mosiah, he preached against the same crap she does now, lack of self-respect………………he has a positive and very powerful message that will live on for centuries to come……………..the man was decades ahead of his time, that is why he was hated……he became a threat to the establishment of racism and enslavement… so bueno in those years. They could never kill his spirit or his message.

  8. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 4:48 PM #

That should read…you cannot put Rihanna in the same class or sentence of this visionary and articulate genius Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

  13. Jack Bowman April 26, 2013 at 5:33 PM #

Ah, Well Well, even though you’re obviously an idiot with an irony by-pass you did manage to make me laugh. Thanks for that.

But let me remind you that Seamus O’Heaney of Donegal is not simply, in your own loving words, “some long dead irish shit head”.

In his time, Professor Sir Seamus (Leroy) O’Heaney invented, among other things:

    22. Grace Jones.
    23. Electricity.
    24. All world-wide tides.
    25. The telephone.
    26. Cars.
    27. Marlin, all of them.
    28. People (idiots, obviously) who make bright floating things that make it easier to catch marlin.
    29. Mops.
    30. Photography.
    31. Belgium.
    32. The trade-unionist champions of the voiceless downtrodden Bajan worker.
    33. Desks.
    34. My pet worm Alan, who’s lovely (just added that one so you might grasp how to use an apostrophe).
    35. Bricks.
    36. Egypt.
    37. Ball-point pens.
    38. Toothpaste.
    39. The Albigenisan Crusade

    and, er

    40. Toilets.

  14. LOOK April 26, 2013 at 5:41 PM #

Marcus Garvey is a man of earned respect, Rhianna unlike Marcus Garvey is uneducated, mentally imbalanced – a product of her environment.

Jack bow down……..who cares……………it’s about Marcus Mosiah Garvey……….get a thread for your irishman, again, who cares?? i don’t want to know about the irish guy……….i want to hear about Marcus Mosiah Garvey…………….the materials you listed fade away, they are only material……….Garveys message will live for thousands of years…

Dr. The Honourable………..I don’t know what Rihanna is teaching you and I don’t care……….she is not teaching me anything that i have not seen or heard already in my long life…..when she has something of value to teach me, let me know.

  16. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 5:49 PM #

  18. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 5:57 PM #

Look………..unless she changes course, and stranger things have happened cause she is young and not yet fully matured………..the only thing I see Rihanna being remembered for 100 years from now is maybe being the luckiest person to ever get discovered without any real full-blown talent……………..she just might surprise us who are not star struck.

  19. Jack Bowman April 26, 2013 at 5:58 PM #

    Dear Well Well,

Marcus deserves better than you. You are, quite obviously, a dick. I never met Marcus, but I’ll assume that he didn’t want his vocal advocates to make themselves look stupid when they write.

  20. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 6:05 PM #

Obviously some of you did not listen to Marcus Mosiah’s message, or you will hear him cry out against the same thing Rihanna is doing to herself now, all for the love of money………………and you want to put Rihanna in the same class as someone who actually had a brain and understood the reasons for the self-destruction of the black race……………what is wrong with you people??

  21. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 6:06 PM #

It is disingenuous to compare an island of +4000sq miles and a population of 2.7 million persons with an island of 170 sq miles and a population of 0.2 million persons.Nevertheless,I am rising to the bait and in spite of the statistics I have quoted, we do have many stars e.g.Gary Sobers, worlds best all round cricketer,Most cricketing knights in the world,Sir Garfield Sobers,Sir Frank Worrell,Sir Clyde Walcott,Sir Conrad Hunte,Sir Everton Weekes,Sir Wesley Hall.
Worlds most formidable opening pairs:Conrad Hunte and Seymour Nurse, then Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge:Worlds most fearsome fast bowling pair:Hall and Griffith.
We boast also of the Worlds Draughts Champion Ronald ‘Suki’King
We boast of the one and only Prime Minister of the West Indies,Sir Grantley Adams.
I can go on.When on a visit to Barbados the Secretary General of the UN Kofi Annan said to the press that Barbados is known for punching above its weight in international affairs, are’nt we all stars?
One more slap in yuh tail.We dollar worth 50cents us.Wat wunna jamaica dollar wurf now?1/10 of 1 cent us?So Myrie is a star too?Looking fuh hard currency from lil Barbados?Wunna so hard up?Talking ’bout stars?Better look skyward you bunch of incompetent politicos;run down a good country tying up the population head with a lotta ganja and rope hair raathole no good louts!Chuh man…get out mih yaad..

  24. ac April 26, 2013 at 6:46 PM #

So then explain what in his speech is different today ” the dog eat dog mentality still alive and well; low selfesteem ‘ Disrespect for one another and self . Sell each other out at the drop of a dime! in the area of self help and self determination we expect others to do “it ” for us. If marcus Garvey was alive today he would hang his head and shame. As for ac she just WEEPS! and hope one day the black race would be able to embrace one other.

  25. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 7:04 PM #

AC………..that is what Garvey’s message is all about and that was way back in 1922, i believe……………….if you listen you will see the same applies today, nothing changed………… is about the message and the message lives on…………..

  26. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 7:05 PM #

And Barbados do have a lot of stars who don’t get the attention they deserve……………..

  27. ac April 26, 2013 at 9:31 PM #

Marcus garvey had a vision of selfdetermination for blacks which would have undoubetly led to self respect and respect from others. Unfortunately blacks still prefer to be controlled and led around on a leash by their modern day slave masters with tokens of unfulfilled promises and empty dreams

  28. Well Well April 26, 2013 at 9:53 PM #

Just look at the events of the past two weeks one inwhich a white lawyer in broad daylight was able to tella black judge to kiss his/a…s/With abone chiling response of acceptance from blacks. As if to add insult to injury a lynch mob mentality of attacks by blacks was launched on one of there own becasuse he dared to speak out in pursut of respect

  30. ac April 26, 2013 at 10:23 PM #

iaf marcus Garvey was alive today how does one think he ould view those two incidents. is it a coimcedience that blacks some blacks would find no offence to a whiteman asking a black to kiss his ass or is it an engrained mentality of wanting to be accepted or seeking appioval from the ancestors of out past slave masters .How could it be that with all the education and so called intellect blacks can freely give up their dignity and selfworth in return for nothing. Are we so dumb?

  31. ac April 26, 2013 at 10:39 PM #

The two incidents speaks volumes about the lack of selfworth blacks have for themselves and when blacks speak of pride blacks should take a step back and reflect on the way they treat each otherand question if Pride is evident cause the events of the past two weels paints a pictire of indifference and selhate

  32. Bush Tea April 26, 2013 at 10:56 PM #

Oh ac shut your face and go long sleep do! ….or go and call Arizona and see if the man plan to come back… 🙂
How this got to be black and white?

If black people had half the guts of Garvey, 50 black lawyers would have invited a lot more high-up to kiss their donkey long ago – out of frustration with our lousy legal system.

As usual, like Clement Payne and Garvey before him, some outsider has to come here to point out to us that there is a lotta shiite to be cleaned up. …you ever heard of righteous indignation?

You should be thanking the man for doing what your softie husband has been wanting to do for years but lacked the cajoles to…apart from dumping you…

Now u trivialsing and rationalising the obscene behaviour acted upon a black by these decendants as justifiable in the name of change makes u one igruntt NEGRO

  37. ac April 27, 2013 at 10:02 AM #

Marcus garvey and all black leaderswho lead the fight for the rights! justice! and respect of the blacks would never underany circumstances condone any disrepect of a black by any race be it verbally or by any method which would subject blacks to be seen as inferior or worthless. Those freedom fighters were people of integrity and never would geneflect to those who blatantly does blacks wrong …Bush Tea don.t confuse the issue . this is about RESPECT. a charcteristic which u lacked.

Barbados I know is a rather small area, a lot of people there know each other – apparently. ac, maybe should change her moniker. The internet and internet search engines is not a new thing but capable of doing a lot of damage. The subject of focus though spotlights on Marcus Garvey, not poster ac, personal exposure on the internet.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that may have been inspired by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey alike Dr. King had the ability to motivate and move masses of people. The historic now famous I have a Dream Speech was delivered August 28, 1963 (Washington, DC) by Dr. King amist masses of people. The bajan singer Rihanna attracts masses of people but she unlike Marcus Garvey and Dr. King is not respected. She’s uneducated, chaotic and mentally imbalanced. She is a product of her environment – Barbados.

  39. Well Well April 27, 2013 at 5:54 PM #

Look………….I gather you were able to access information on AC just from her moniker, if so, she should listen to you………….the internet is a very dangerous place………….

  40. LOOK April 27, 2013 at 8:55 PM #

I am far away from that island, glad that I am.

Personal information about AC on this blog made me aware that she was female, resident of Barbados and more. All, however, is irrevelant, not related to topic. [If] what Caswell Franklin stated (another blog) on this site about Fractured BLP, he also should change his moniker. That information exposed about Fractured BLP also was irrevelent, not related to topic.

The topic, this blog is Marcus Garvey. Garvey, we know had the ability to reach out to people and did. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President Obama and yes ex-prime minister (now deceased) David Thompson had that ability upon them. The Barbados people are now not proud of David Thompson and shouldn’t be. That does not change fact that he had charasmatic qualities.

Please note the following which was received from a BU family member.

    Hi David,

You know that I am all for truth. I have no problem with the content of the video, but the attempt to say that this is Garvey’s voice is incorrect. These are actors and the one playing Garvey is a Guyanese. The person who compiled this video may not have realised this and hence the misleading information in the title slides.

Of course the script was developed based on Garvey’s writings and interviews with members of the UNIA recounting the Garvey days.

  49. Kiki April 28, 2013 at 7:17 PM #

    This is Marcus’ Voice

  50. Well Well April 28, 2013 at 8:48 PM #

Over the years, I have heard Garvey’s voice on tape and embedded in music, obviously he did not tape everything he wrote so some actors or readers will be used, the message still remains the same, but his voice is still very recognizable.

    Dear Well Well,

Well well may be you and yours, though you still hold contempt for Seamus O’Heaney.

    44. The planet Neptune

    59. The Beatles AND the Merrymen
    60. Safety razors
    61. The “Brazilian” wax strip
    62. White trash
    63. Black trash
    64. “Negroman” of the “BU Family”
    65. Those dolts selling crap postcards who stop your car EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to go to North Point

For it is written, is it not Well Well, that the fools shall always be with us, but the water shall, indeed, be wine (Book of Sh’anta, 73:14).

And there came from that multitude Seamus O’Heaney, upon whom the Lord did smile, though he be-ist from the Land of Donegal and spake only Gaelic.

And is it not shown, as the ancient prophets rightly foretold (Eric, 27:9), Isaiah-Dwayne Junior (7:14), Shontelle (4:3), that there would come among them a man of the Gallic tribe, fierce in his learning, a son of the tribe of David and a son of the tribe of Alvin, from east of Eden but west of Jordan and not more south than Oistins, to show that the prophet O’Heaney has given unto us:

    74. The tuning fork
    75. The afternoon
    76. The anxious scowl of each baboon
    The bottle brush
    77. The swing-top bin
    78. The lumps that grown beneath our skin
    79. The roulette wheel
    80. Conspiring talk
    81. The rhythm of the penguins walk
    82. The years of grief
    83. The libelous hint
    84. The plasma of the innocent
    85. The untraced lie
    86. The verbal dart
    87. The atom and the tsetse fly
    88. Deceits which we now justify
    89. The zebra’s stripe
    90. The callous joke
    91. The anthem that the bullfrogs croak
    92. The nightingale
    93. The damming phrase
    94. The unseen rage of all our days
    95. The beetles brain
    96. The sour jibe
    97. The self-advancement moral bribe
    98. The leper’s soul
    99. The withered heart
