In two earlier blogs BU asked Minister of Health Donville Inniss to clarify a couple issues regarding his involvement in a company called Fiesta Catering. He is a public servant and taxpayers deserve some respect if public documents caused us to raise concerns. Instead he used his time on the airwaves last week to direct a tirade at ‘the blogs’.  We are disappointed that he has not addressed our questions, we know he monitors BU.

The fact that traditional media who we know also monitor the blogs have not followed the issue is to be expected.

Here is another matter we hope Minister Inniss will find the time to address. BU understands that Colostomy bags are provided free for patients who have had this procedure. Patients are signing for a high quality bag called Coloplast and the hospital is charged for this but the patients are being provided with a lower quality Generic brand that costs half the price but is charged to the hospital full price.

Minister the question is simple – is the above (in blue) true?

    At least no one will die from the use of those generic bags. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the generic drugs that they are using.

    NOTE THAT SOME GENERICS MAY BE BOUGHT FROM TOP COMPANIES.
    E.G, SQUIB USED TO MAKE A VERY CHEAP TERACYCLINE CALLED SUMYCIN WHICH WAS VERY EFFECTIVE

    DRUGS FROM APO- AND BIOCHEMIE AND CARLISLE GAVE TROUBLE IN THE 80′;S

    And why is the hospital using our tax money to pay premium price for a lower quality bag?

    This is a similar charge to the one William Duguid made in regards to the purchase and supply of gloves.

    I listened the the debate in the House that day and I could tell from Donville Inniss as he feigned outrage at Dr Duguid’s claim that the hospital’s source was buying cheap gloves and selling them onto the government at a high price.

    Now a similar thing has arisen. Dr Duguid claimed that the company selling these items to the QEH is a company with three persons operating from a warehouse with connections to the said minister. A charge he never refuted in his feign outrage!

    So much for transparency and integrity.

    Inniss says that he is very much in favour of public – private sector relationships in the delivery of health care in Barbados. Funny thing is a couple of the same names keep popping up when the interests are exposed. I am very much in opposition to Inniss’s position.

    I had a six sense that GP would have stepped in. Look man I am all for exploiting human nature for profit, as long as such activity earns Barbados a “real” living. When it comes to exposing Barbadians to the brand of leaching that is the Barbados private sector (Doctors included), in those instances where the fundamental health and well being of citizens are concerned the state should spare no expense in providing for them … like what obtains in Canada.

    There are people in Barbados now who are investing heavily in state of the art medical equipment and using the health of a population to make a return on investment … lazy bitches … most of them are not even medically trained.

    Under the last administration it had become pretty clear that there was a reluctance to repair existing equipment at the QEH since referrals provided opportunity for privateers to feed off of the tax payers purse. The Minister of Health at the time I believe had an interest in one of those operations.

    You see the problem …?

    Perhaps in the same way we are asking questions of Inniss we should do the same of Jerome Walcott who has interest in private healthcare in Barbados. In BU’s opinion this should make him ineligible to manage any portfolio which deals with health or procurement should the BLP win the upcoming general election.

    Given your experience are you able to offer a possible explanation why the hospital would go the longer route to have CTs done as described in the earlier blog?.

    I was most shocked when learning that you can get a medical report from your doctor for as little as $30 in Canada, if you don’t have the money, the first report is free. Now these thieving and disgustingly unethical, morally bankrupt doctors in Bim would charge anywhere from $1,000-$7,000 for a medical report when it involves a personal injury case and in fine greedy fashion withhold the report if they can’t get the money. When I mentioned it to someone in Canada, they were appalled that doctors would display that level of greed to patients.

    See why the poor and the unconnected are pissed off at these politicians in Barbados?During the Arthur reign there was this middle man providing a front for certain friends.Today the shit continues,same game different players.When will we see the mug shot of one of these elected crooks on the front page of a daily?

    THIS MONEY IS RECOVERED VIA THE INSURANCE COMPANY
    INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE A TARIFF OF WHAT MONIES THEY WILL PAY FROM A GP OR FROM A CONSULTANT.

    What was reprehensible is that most of the reports I saw that were issued by consultants were usually not saying anything to help the patient with their claim.

    We all know, just like the lawyers, the doctors in Barbados are not above also taking money from the insurance companies to give the plaintiff a totally insignificant report, sabotaging the claim and being paid by both sides.. It is an epidemic of lack of ethics and morals on a gigantic scale.

    i agree. i know of 4 different cases where all the individuals were victims of accidents. they do not have the horrendous money that the thieving doctors are asking for, so it is like a viscous circle for these individuals. in fact one of the individuals was recently evicted from his home. Since the accident, he has been unable to work as he did before as a result his rent back up – long story short, he and his family found themselves on the streets and are still on the streets, in Barbados but it has not been highlighted and i know that it won’t be. he got into an accident around 2007, the other driver accepted responsibility, the insurance company is willing to pay but the guy’s doctor is demanding a high amount. when the guy ask for a copy his file so that he could take it to another doctor, he makes all kinds of excuses but have not yet given it to him

    Usually these poor folk are unable to pay doctors fees far less for a report. one way is to submit the letter to the lawyer and hope to get paid at the end [which I sometimes never did].Some folk get paid out and never return. Also it often took long for the case to be settled so as to get paid. I guess this is why the doctors today are demanding money up front

    If we go by what Minister Inniss said to the CBC TV news tonight he intends to ignore us on the ‘blogsites’ as he described it.

    I am a DLP supporter.

    If Minister Inniss intends to ignore blogsites then I advise him to rethink that position and at least pay an assistant to monitor the “blogsites”.

    Political strategy must include evaluating and acting on comments on the blogs.

    Isn’t it ironic that a few months ago Minister Inniss felt inclined to post on BU when he wanted to fly a kite on the possible siting of the QEH or was it to create a diversion – now the situation is reversed he wants to rubbish the BU family? We shall press on.

    I expect better from the Minister. A blog should be treated as a source of information and can be more valuable than traditional media.

    On a blog someone reports or comments as is done in traditional newspapers but the difference is that on a blog there is an immediate response and continuing discussion and opinions.

    The Dems need another Hartley Henry.

    Cruelty is the name of the game in Barbados, people actually get off on it and feel a whole lot better about themselves. Don’t mind Donville, he does not like criticism but likes a lot of attention, one of his downfalls. He will not be able to stay away from what people are saying about him and the taxpayer funded crowd.

    WE NEED TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THE SEISMIC DOCUMENTS THAT WERE STOLEN AND A COVER UP ENFORCED. WERE THE DOCUMENTS RECOVERED OR SOLD?? WHO STOLE THEM???
