Where does Mac Fingall get off with his absolute rude and crude behaviour, Monday at the Christ Church Foundation School’s Black History Month celebrations?

For those not privy to the goings on, Mac infront the school’s filled auditorium, did the unforgivable. In a nutshell he informed all in attendance, that people(obviously includes classmates) of a fairer complexion, owe their colour to the fact, that a white man indignantly raped their great great grandmothers.

C’mon Mac, we all know you can’t say that. (Even if it were in some cases true). Not when you a retired school teacher from the Lodge School, and today a mentor for many young inmates at Dodds Prison, a societal icon, just recently received a Barbados Service Star.

No Mac, such could be termed provocative and racial  insighting behaviour, that if misconstrued by the Foundation’s School students, could lead to disharmony at the Prime Minister’s old school. Now we wouldn’t want that, right Mac?

Listen Mac, Jack ya behaving Slack….hence the Flak. Ya owe the school an apology for such unsavoury behaviour. In future Inspector Bacon, do consider your audience before starting one of your oppressive and haughty omelettes. Ya hear muh Jack?

You sure you read what I wrote?

I made the point that in places like Thailand and China darker people are generally Field workers and so society tends to favour lighter skinned citizens and as such it had nothing to with Whitey in certain countries.

My own wife’s mother would tell my wife off if she went out in the Sun too much and indeed the use of parasols in the East is for the reasons I stated.

  2. @Alien

I have no way of being sure, BUT it is in the realm of possibility that a very intellectually advanced group from extra terrestrial sources spliced some DNA!

They might have been Angels? We know of certain entities (giants et al ) that loved Earthling females and mated with them according to the Bible. I doubt Earthlings were familiar with DNA, thousands of years ago indeed 50 yrs back!

Many waste time on skin when we supposedly all originated in Africa anyway. Humans just love division and fragmentationin many different forms!

  3. @Miller

I have long been pissed off with those Bajans who did not want to share Sir Garfield and M Ali wid me! They were my icons as much as any black kids.

I still enjoy annoying some pun here by pointing out that technically Tiger W is Thai if any one “racial” designation is to be used.

I cant confirm how much if any black blood I may have BUT certainly there are Bajans who have a significant proportion of my lineages blood who are not 100% Caucasian.

  4. But why do you think that many so-called white Bajans, pack their offspring , especially daughters, off to refrigerated Canada?
Stay in these hot climes, and eventually the tar brush will daub them.

  5. I applaud the courage of Mac Fingall to delve into this issue. This issue of shadism within the Caribbean is a common theme which has shaped our mind-set dating back to the time when the first white European forced himself onto one of our womenfolk. What was the result of this unholy reunion? Well we know the answer to this.

I believe that Mac Fingall made a fundamental assertion that those of light-skinned descent should delve carefully into their history in order to assess the origin of their pigmentation and how they (light-skinned people) were able to make gains due to their pigmentation at the expense of their darker skin brothers and sisters.

Their history is nothing to be of proud of and should be seen as a source of profound shame. I do not need to elaborate on this point as those who contribute to the BU forum are all reasonably intelligent people.

Unless we in the Caribbean are prepared to discuss our dirty linen, our hypocritical and our shameful past we will forever continue to stumble towards a bleak future. We Barbadians have always been in denial of our history and are clearly unwilling or incapable of discussing it.

What a pity that it has taken a light-skinned Bajan to speak the truth! To those who feel offended by his words and tone – I do not give a damn!

  6. I still remember being shocked in 1974-75 that the prevailing opinion in the UK was that Black fellas would not perform well in the EPL, at that time I doubt they were any except maybe Cyril Regis. However, there were a few gents around known as Pele and Black Pearl? Who says whiteys cant be dumb as rass!

  7. Exclaimer i also have the courage to shout fire in a crowded theatre because it is the truth, ja

  8. Exclaimer February 8, 2015 at 4:52 PM #: “… dating back to the time when the first white European forced himself onto one of our womenfolk…”

You may also explore to what extent our womenfolk have welcomed such force and how the extent of their receptiveness of such force has impacted on Black people. Have our womenfolk contributed to our current position?

“I cant confirm how much if any black blood I may have BUT certainly there are Bajans who have a significant proportion of my lineages blood who are not 100% Caucasian.”

And if you can you ought to be proud of your dual or multi-heritage.
The same way that ‘variety is the spice of life’ miscegenation is the best protection against the genetic ravages of Nature’s inefficiencies. Just look at the variegation that exists among the flora and fauna on our blue planet. The bees and insects do have their role to play in spreading the joy of intermingling fertility. So too do the human spermatozoa and ova.

Inbreeding, whether at the communal or race level, is mankind’s biggest threat to the long-term survival of the human species.
So we ought to relax in the many rays of sexual sunshine in multi-coloured splendour that come our way.

  16. .On the 6th August 1945 my great granddad Col Paul F. Tibbetts flew a B29 Superfortress Bomber called the Enola Gay over Hiroshima with a single payload, the first atomic bomb ever built attached to its undersides. The bomb was named the “Little Boy”, for what reasons, neither I nor my great grandad could imagine. The bomb was dropped at exactly 2.08 am on the sleeping Japanese for maximum effect killing close to two million men women and children in their sleep. The real killer however was the radiation effect on Japans air water and food supply, also any survivors who were either badly burnt, or inhale the toxic fall out remnants living within a 500 mile proximity.

To this day my family would like to individually apologies to each and every family for this horrendous genocidal act inflicted on the Japanese people and to mankind. It was my great great grandad’s dying wish. As part of my life’s mission to compensate the good people of Japan, whose fore parents suffered this wrong as a direct result of the action of one of my ancestors, I am to visit 200 schools in Japan extending my family and country’s sincere apology for the brutal act.
    **
I have come across this blog my mere accident while surfing the net and thought I should if I am allowed to toss in my bit. In Japan today the physical radiation effects on the people of Japan are LONG GONE, but not the memories, if stirred.

Question for you is: Can anyone in their right minds say to anyone of those children in the classroom I will be in tomorrow, “you have radiation effected blood running in your veins because back in August 1945, the 6th to be exact The Little Boy atomic bomb was dropped on your ancestors” and wanted to be taken SERIOUSLY?

I hope you get my point here, yes the bombing was a TRUTH and yes maybe if a blood sample were taken at random from over the 200 school population, I am assured by the health authorities that the possibility of finding a 0.00537 trace of uranium is 0.00023 % infinitely small. You guys have a lot to be thankful for rather than seeking divisions over a wrong done to you long gone.

    Enjoy

You asked “Why did Selma not get nominated for one (single) Grammy?”

For the same reason that those aware of the issues of someone seeking to humanize the issue of racism while saying that your own son is the product of a mixed union.

You simply do not want to incur the wrath of the powers that be and have the public turn their backs on you, like they did with Mayor de Blasio, for the turning of backs in Hollywood, equates to not watching other Hollywood movies, through which Hollywood and the machinery makes money, ten times more serious than any grammy nomination

  22. @Alien February 8, 2015 at 5:45 PM #

You commented that: “You may also explore to what extent our womenfolk have welcomed such force and how the extent of their receptiveness of such force has impacted on Black people. Have our womenfolk contributed to our current position?”

I read this comment last night and was uncertain how I should respond. If someone tosses a grenade in your direction how does one respond? You have focussed on an area which is seldom discussed.

We have a university in Barbados, I wonder if it has carried out and published research within this area. I would be very surprise if it has.

Unless we attempt to discuss our history warts and all, we will forever be lost.

    @ David,
This topic deserves a post; step forward Pachamama.

  23. @Exclaimer

There is probably no forum in Barbados which has explored and debated race issues like BU. It is one of the most polarizing issues steeped in a heavy dose of subjectivity read how we are socialized. Here is what we know: racism, classism, colour, or what you want to refer to it as EXIST and we have to deal with it.

  26. @old onion bags February 9, 2015 at 6:52 AM

You are funny, re “…d pieca shiite thread” .

To use a line that AC adopted throughout this discourse: it is guaranteed that if you stand in a crowded theater and shout fire that you will immediately become a leader of men and women….to the exits.

Similarly sir, it is equally guaranteed that a mention of skin colour and Bajan society will generate a lotta palaver. A real lot.

The 244 comments later and counting reinforces the point that everyone is scared of fires and respond very strongly to the cry of fire, fire.

Bushie’s original remarks were quite accurate.

  27. Correction: “The 224 comments…and counting” that should have read.

“White Bajans pack their kids off to Canada—-”

Is it really to avoid a daub of the Tar brush????

I packed myself off to Canada for various reasons:

1 opportunity to use my Business education to maximum PROFIT

2 availabilty of much higher standard of living

3 Pissed at Tom for 70% Tax rate where a $3000 Bonus became $900 for me and $2100 for whoever.

4 while I believed Bim would do reasonably well compared to other islands, I reasoned that eventually some CLOWN or troupe of CLOWNS would DAMAGE Bdos financially and socially via increase in crime. EXCELLENT PROPHECY!

I don’t have anywhere near enough time to continue here.

  37. If Brown Skin thinks Mac Fingall’s remarks should not have been said, mild as they were, he/she may want to take into consideration the value of free speech in a free society. Not far from where Mac is reported to have made his statement is Codrington College, aka, Codrington plantation, which is ample verification of his remarks. There are still those people in Barbados who want to suppress history like they did for hundreds of years. Speak Mac Speak, regardless of who dont like it. You have history on your side and it is worst than your mild remarks.

  38. If Mac’s intentions were to give a lesson in History,we got nine history teachers up here to do such. Miss Watson been teaching us for years. So why he decided to direct his comments to only one group?

Barbados too divided when it comes to skin pigmentation. So what’s in a color? Problem is when I read some like Exclaimer’s posit where he seemingly feels that the color of a darker skin is a hinderance to social mobility. Some alike, foolishly allow such rubbish to frig with their psyche. Sad indeed. Let’s take Rihanna for example, I hear foolishness of the sort about her ascension too. More Bull. Did Rhi Rhi not compete on the world stage against the BEST….Beyonce,Lady Ga Ga to name a few, and still come out on TOP!!!!…yet Barbadians like Exclaimer would find solace in such nonsense, thinking the world has done them wrong.Get real sulkers and rid of the chasm on your shoulders. Time to face reality and WORK like her and stop sulking and hating people non stop. Brown is an Ok color..fa real LOL.
